The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana offers a variety of parenting workshops, seminars, and training sessions for educators, childcare workers, custodial and non-custodial parents, extended family members and community volunteers throughout Region VIII. One of The Children’s Coalition core values is that “families are the first and best teachers for children.” By adapting classes to the specific needs of participants with regard to the age of the child, work schedules and family circumstances; we are empowering parents with the skills to strengthen their families. All of our professional trainings can be conducted at local organizations, churches, schools, facilities, etc. throughout the region. Full day or part day trainings are available, as well as a variety of classes, including Right from Birth, Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP), Early STEP, Nurturing Skills for Families, and Effective Black Parenting. These workshops help parents to understand some of the fundamental components of quality childcare and parenting. We offer strategies to assist them in achieving more rewarding interactions with their children.

The Parent Education Initiative under a grant funded by the Louisiana Department of Social Services enables the Coalition to:
• Empower Adults and Children through the development of their Personal Power
• Build Self-Worth through appropriate Expectations of Children’s Growth and Development
• Utilize Positive, Non-violent Discipline Practices and Techniques
• Develop Empathy and Sense of Caring in Parents and Children.
