Health Fair

The Start School Right Children ’s Resources and Health Fair is an annual event that began in 2002. It is held every year at the Monroe Civic Center as a co-operative effort with the Region 8 Medicaid staff. It is usually held in the late summer in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The purpose of the event is to enroll children into the LaCHIP and Medicaid programs while offering health screening opportunities to children on site. Vision, dental, hearing, blood pressure, blood glucose, height, weight and body mass index screenings were given to school-aged children at no charge. Shots for Tots gives immunizations for a small fee. Other resources as well as school supplies were also given on a first come, first serve basis.
