What is the Ancillary Teaching Certificate? 

  • The ancillary teaching certificate is a professional credential for teachers in early learning centers.
  • Beginning July 1, 2019 all lead teachers in publicly funded centers must have an ancillary teaching certificate. 
  • The ancillary teaching certificate program is a free 9 month training program that provides 120 hours of in-depth training in early childhood education, 30 clock hours of applied practice in early childhood settings, and intensive support and coaching for teachers completing their CDA portfolio. 
  • After completing the program, teachers will receive their Child Development Associate (CDA) and be qualified to receive their Ancillary Teaching Certificate from the Louisiana Department of Education

 

Who can apply? 

Candidates must:

  • Be working for a minimum of 16 hours a week in a Type III classroom.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be employed as a lead teacher OR an assistant teacher who has received assurance from their director that they are committed to their role and will be considered for lead teacher upon EC Ancillary Certificate Credential. 
  • Be enrolled in Louisiana Pathways or be completing the paperwork to do so. 

 

What is The Children’s Coalition Institute for Northeast Louisiana?

The Children’s Coalition Institute for Northeast Louisiana is a unique early childhood education program created especially for teachers currently working in early  learning centers.  A team of experienced instructors works in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Education, local colleges, and area childcare centers to provide a comprehensive curriculum , giving teachers both a theoretical understanding and hands on application of best practices in early childhood education. 

The nine month program meets weekly at the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana’s office in Monroe, LA.  An online class portion is also included in the curriculum.  Weekly attendance is required.

 

What do I need to apply? 

  • ATC Admission Application (front and back; blue ink only)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Letter of recommendation/support from employing center/enrollment verification 
  • Pathways membership document
  • Scholarship Application
  • Copy of Criminal Background Check
