PINWHEELS FOR PREVENTION - ALEXANDRIA

Many thanks to all who attended Pinwheels for Prevention in Alexandria, LA today at the Child Advocacy Network Center. This ceremony was one of three held in North Louisiana to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month. Our goal is to raise awareness, strengthen community connections and increase the success rate of preventing child abuse and neglect.

This initiative, formerly known as Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, was funded by the Carolyn W. and Charles T. Beaird Family Foundation.

NURTURING PARENTING PROGRAM GRADUATES 10 PARENTS

Congratulations to our Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP) Cohort 15 Graduating Class. Training during these 16-weeks of NPP included Life Skills, ACE, Home Visits, Case Management, Individual Support Counseling and Parent-child Observations.

These parents stated they loved the parenting skills they learned and enjoyed our wonderful staff. The children also enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt that took place outside in the garden to celebrate this milestone.

The Family Resource Center staff is proud of our 10 graduating parents and wish them much success as they continue to work towards their goals!

Twenty four states require sex education, thirty eight require sex ed to be approved of by parents. Abstinence+ is a sex education program that emphasizes abstinence, but covers birth control, condoms, healthy relationships, consent and STD information.

Why Abstinence-plus?
Gustafson says this form os sex education is beneficial to healthy development. Education that is led by parents, but guided by professionals means that all students are on a level playing field. Parents are seen as the first and most important educators, and are backed up by medically accurate information of sexual health.

On Initiating The Talk
Gustafson suggests turning to the internet for sexual health resources, if your student is having trouble.

FRANKLIN PARISH, La. - (4/10/19) Today was a big day for about 170 little ones in Franklin Parish.

The Franklin Parish Public Library unveiled their 'Talk, Read, Play Everyday in Franklin' project.

The partnership between the Children's Coalition and the Franklin Parish Public Library is all in an effort to put a book in every child's hand.

The COMO foundation awarded $4,000 to the early childhood education hub.
